Drive Forward is an employable skills program that helps individuals obtain their driver's license for the purpose of employment. Currently, the focus is to support members of Indigenous communities who seek to enter industries or find employment that requires a driver’s license.
Our program provides access to driver’s training (L and N) by eliminating barriers such as resources and costs.

Basic Eligibility:

Must be 16 to 60 years old
-
Currently unemployed or hold a part-time position
-
Hold 2 pieces of valid ID; 1 primary and 1 secondary
-
Ability to complete ICBC Parental Consent form if under the age of 19 years old
-
No outstanding fines with ICBC
Higher priorities will be provided to those who meet the basic eligibility and is currently:

Self-identify as Indigenous, First Nations, Metis, and/or Inuit.

Offer of employment or enrolled in an employment skills program.

Enrolled in an Alternative high school program.
-
Identify as Newcomer or Refugee status.
-
In guardianship (past or present) of Ministry of Child and Family Development (including AYA).

Get your L (Learner's License):
Our “What the L!” workshop teaches participants the essential knowledge required to successfully pass the Learner’s exam.
Our workshop:

Navigates through the Knowledge booklet step by step

Highlights key points in each section

Identifies useful clues in preparation for the exam

Offers opportunities for participants to ask questions and learn through group discussions
Typically "What the L!" workshop consists of two 3 hour sessions, spread one week apart. The participants will write the Learner's exam right after the second session at the local ICBC.

Drive Forward provides up to 10 hours of driver's training with a certified driving instructor. If you are interested in obtaining a driver's license for the purpose of employment and meet our program eligibility, apply today!

We believe our “What the L!” workshop is a key building block to starting the process of obtaining a driver's license. We are interested in collaborating with other non-profit organizations, schools, and programs who provide youth with employment skills training.
What are the benefits?

Save cost on a new exciting program- Our organization Needs of the Community Society will fund 50%- 100% of the total workshop cost. Yes, up to 100%!

Let us do the work- Why waste your time and resources when we can facilitate a well-developed workshop for you. Your participants will have an opportunity to work with our knowledgeable facilitator, engage in a fun curriculum where they can openly ask questions and learn through group discussions.

We help all the way- We want your participants to experience success through this process. Our facilitator will work with your staff to ensure the participants have the opportunity to write their Learner’s test. Our facilitator will organize the necessary documents, required ID’s and support coordination of rides to ICBC.
What is the cost of “What the L!” workshop?
The cost for a workshop is $850.00 and it covers up to 10 participants.
